Home Learning
At St Paul’s we believe that education is a life-long process. A child’s education does not cease when he /she leaves our school premises, learning at home is an essential part of good education. “Home Learning” is any work or activity completed outside lesson time, either alone, with parents, or others and homework make an important contribution to progress at school.
At St Paul’s we use the software ‘Doodle’ as our little and often approach to home learning. Doodle builds confidence and ability in Maths and English by creating every child a personalised work programme, tailored to their strengths and weaknesses. Teachers assign tasks each week which support the learning in class and are appropriate for each individual child’s needs. Doodle tasks are set on a Friday and must be completed by the following Friday. Pupils are also encouraged (and rewarded) to be in the green zone, this is achieved by using Doodle little and often. Parents are encouraged to link to their child’s account to monitor their child’s progress.
Regular reading is vital and all children have a BoomReader account to log their home reading on. Children also has a Timestable Rockstars account which we encourage children to use at home. Weekly spellings are sent home to support learning school. Throughout the year we also have school and year group home learning projects for children to enjoy completing with their family.
Covid-19 has placed a burden on our society that has impacted us in so many ways. As a school, we have seen and felt the impact greatly as Covid-19 adds a layer of complexity to already complex and demanding education expectations required by the Government. Having to manage working and home learning whilst having Covid-19 is no easy task and at times very stressful. The expectations of managing home learning is also very complicated and demanding for our staff who already have a high work load to manage.
If your child has COVID-19 and they are ill they should be resting and recovering. Covid-19 for most children presents as being very mild, so we understand that some parents may want to complete learning with them at home. If this should be the case, we have prepared 3 days' worth of learning tasks that are easy to access. Please click on the links below.
There is no expectation that this is completed and we are very aware that each family's experience of COVID-19 is very different. There is also no expectation to send photos of your child's work. Tasks do not need to be printed, please contact the school office if you require any paper. Please remember, your child can also use their Doodle, TTRS and Accelerated Reader accounts at home.
Should you require additional home learning after these 3 days, please contact your child's class teacher via School Dojo.
